Our filmmaking series starts off with our writers! We will walk you through the process of writing a 5 page script. Not only is this an opportunity to learn but each writer will walk away with a written work and the opportunity to have their work produced on screen! 

 

The winning work will move forward in our filmmaking process. The actors will be taught from your work and the film class will  be there to help produce your work in real time! 

The winner will also get free entry into the rest of the filmmaking series.

Fundamentals of screenwriting: Powered by our partners Celtx. 

Taught by Hailee Dyer

Powered by our partners at Celtx, we will break down all the elements needed to build a good story and how to structure your script from the beginning. In this session we will establish the guidelines for filmmaking script submissions. 

 

All participants are suggested to come to this session to have a good base to build upon. 

July 28th 

Uncovering your voice as a writer and why it matters 

Taught by Hailee Dyer 

Understanding your voice and your why as a writer will help you get through the inevitable writers block and struggles building your character. In this session we will break down the things that make the world of the story. This doesn't start on the page, this starts with you. 

August 3rd 

Building Story Structure and Dialogue 

 

 Taught by Ade Dina 

Filmmaker Ade Dina is joining us back to dive deep into story structure and dialogue. There are many ways to approach getting your story on the page and Ade will help you by providing examples and why each one is available depending on your goals. This is a deep dive session so bring your pens and pencils! 

August 4th

 How to pitch 

Taught by Hailee Dyer 

Our how to pitch session will include 30 minutes of teaching fundamentals to creating a successful pitch. Then we are jumping right in! Attendants of this session will get the opportunity to pitch their 5 page script to go forward into the rest of our workshop. 

One lucky writer will have their 5 page work Produced into a short film by the end of our workshop series. The winner will also be given free access to join our filming dates to see their work come to life

Our filmmaking series is holding space for actors like you!

Teaching various aspects of acting on screen from our very own Shakei Brown. 

Browns experience comes all the way from Hollywood. Learning from the best of the industry Brown wants to bring back some of the lessons he learned to his home town, Dallas Texas. 

The actors will all get the opportunity to not only learn but audition for the lead roles in our film making workshop.  These actors will need to be available on 8/23-24 for filming.

Starting with the script. 

Taught by Hailee Dyer

As an actor, you and the work are meant to become one. So how do we approach acting when we are reading the script? What do you need to think about while reading, what notes are important and how do I bring the writers intentions off of the page? These are some of the questions we will digest in this session + more! 

All participants are suggested to come to this session to have a good base to build upon. 

August 11th 

Acting Fundamentals and what makes you unique

Taught by Hailee Dyer 

Fundamentals of acting is a large range of information. In this two hour session we are going to focus on what makes you unique and practice bringing your gifts to the fundamentals of the craft. 

With a slightly intuitive approach to the fundamentals, all actors will be able to stay true to the character, wow the directors and show them just who they are. This is what makes you stand out amongst the crowd. 

August 17th 

Scene work breakdowns and coaching 

 

 Taught by Shakei Brown 

What happens after you learn your lines, read the script at home, and score it? This is where scene work comes in! Working with the other person in the room can be a little shaky when they start bringing in elements that you were not prepared for. In this session Shakei Brown will show you just how to respect your scene partner, and still stand out. 

The magic is in the preparation and then letting go. 

August 18th 

Audition Day!

Taught by Shakei Brown 

Audition day will be a full run of how to audition for casting directors and producers. This will be taught by industry professional Shakei Brown. Getting the knowledge and the opportunity to put it to the test. 

The last hour of class we will host in person auditions to select 2-3 actors to play the lead role in the Summer intensive short film during the final lesson of the intensive: Filmmaking.

This is the perfect opportunity to come on set and learn from the best of Dallas, Texas. 

We will be teaching you film-making from start to finish. 

Starting with pre-production all the way to the final edit. This intensive is a full experience. 

The winning writer from our Writing Series will share their 5 page work with us to produce, and you get to come along. 

Each participant will get the opportunity to learn in real time what it takes to be in the midst of a full functioning production. 

Joining us on set will grant you the opportunity to be taught, watch and learn, as well as have various Q&A moments on set.

August 23rd 

Pre-Production

Having all of the team members in one room. We will show you what is important when preparing to shoot. Each department, Including directing, DP'ing, Lighting, Sound and Producing will walk you through their preparation so you can see what it takes to really put together a film. 

August 24th 

On Set Day One

Being on set will be a full experience where each person will get to watch the departments move together. The department heads will take a moment to talk about what is happening, what they are doing, etc. Depending on the department you love, you will get a hands on opportunity to work directly with them. 

We will hold for Q&A at various moments during filming, but keep in mind this is a film set and proper etiquette is expected. 

August 25th 

On Set Day Two 

Being on set will be a full experience where each person will get to watch the departments move together. The department heads will take a moment to talk about what is happening, what they are doing, etc. Depending on the department you love, you will get a hands on opportunity to work directly with them.

August 31st

The Editing Bay 

The editing bay class will take you hand in hand with the editor who will show you all his tips and tricks of sequencing and putting together a film. This will be a 2 hour class so come ready to learn and ask questions if you have any.
